Our opening sequence will be an action horror. The sub-genre is a post-apocalyptic. 

The Terminator (1984)

The Terminator is an American film that released in 1984, the director is James Cameron. It is produced by Hemdale, Pacific Western Productions, Euro Film Funding and distributed by Orion Pictures. The top casts in the film are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. The genre of the film is sci-fi action. The general plot is about a cyborg killer who travels from the future to 1984 - the Terminator, who is hunting a lady named Sarah Conner. And another human soldier called Kyle Reese also time travelled to 1984, he is protesting the women.

This film is similar to our opening title sequence as it is also in a post-apocalyptic future setting and the setting for the characters are similar. The terminator which is the assassin is hunting a women. The women is hiding and running away.  The costume for the killer is in a dark tone which shows he is a villain. And his weapon is long gun which is very attractive. It has the same stereotype as ours - the victim is woman and the killer is man which shows man is always more powerful.

From this scene, the sound effect is very real and it creates a large impact. It has many pleonastic sound and also added a non-diegetic soundtrack in the end which creates a nervous atmosphere. An the low angle shot of the assassin can make audience feel oppressed. And the camera composition with the woman and the killer can shows the dangerous situation.

 

Love and Monsters (2020)

This is a action thriller adventure film directed by Michael Matthews. It is distributed by Paramount Pictures and Netflix in 2020. The top casts are Dylan O’Brien, Jessica Henwick and Dan Ewing. The plot is about the main character survived in the monster apocalypse, and he embarks on an adventurous journey because he wants to find his lover. 

The setting is also in a post-apocalyptic world, and the main characters are survivors. The storyline and the comedy atmosphere are different with our opening sequence, but the costume in the movie is similar with ours.

The scene when he running in the woods is really useful for our group. They use a long tracking shots and also a bird view shot which establish the location. In addition, the short editing pace can convey a nervous atmosphere. They also shoot some footage in the rules of third. We can learn from this running sequence.

 

The walking dead (2010)

The walking dead is a post-apocalyptic horror TV shows in 2010-2022. It is created by Frank Darabont, and distributed by AMC Networks and Entertainment One. The top casts are Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies and Laurie Holden. The serious is about the story between the people who survived after the zombie apocalypse – the ‘Walkers’. 

The costumes creates a very strong visual impact. All the weapons and the survival type of clothes tells audience the post-apocalyptic setting at the start. The costumes can show the genre of the movie.

 

Mad Max (1981)

Mad Max is realised in 1981, George Miller is the director. Kennedy Miller Entertainment is the production company, and it is distributed by Roadshow Film Distributors and Warner Bros. It is a post-apocalyptic action film. The general plot line is about a community of settlers who  protect themselves from a roving band of marauders.

 

Here is a scene which include the motorcycle chasing. The sound effects are really cool, the diegetic motorcycle roaring sound and the up-beating soundtrack creates he tension. We can use this sound effect as a reference. In our scene, the killer is riding a motorcycle and chasing the girl. We decided not to show the motorcycle, so we need to add a good soundtrack of the revving motorcycle which can show it is getting closer. The soundtrack is really important, it can make audience to feel the thriller feeling.
