Editing is a really important process, so we tried and practiced how to edit the sequence in this workshop on Tuesday.
We used adobe premiere pro for editing. On the screen, there are 4 different video sections which are the timeline, the source panel, the program panel and the project panel (the workspace). The project panel is where we store our video sources. We can create bins, sequences and files. It is at the bottom left. The source panel can let us view the clips from the project panel. We can play the clips and choose which one we want. It is at the top left. The Program panel is where we can view the clip after editing so we can check whether the edit is nature or not. It is at top right. The timeline is the place that we can grab our clips from the project panel and bins to do edit. It is at the bottom right.
We were editing the sequence that we shot before which include the wide shot, the mid shot and the close up. While editing, we must need to remember to save constantly because if we forget we will lose the edit work. We can press Ctrl+S for saving it. The clips a we have are the footage, rushes and daily’s. They all have the similar meaning of the raw and original video clips that we filmed, they all unedited. And daily is all of the shots are taken in one day.
Furthermore, we learned how to use the in and out points which can select a section of the scene from the source panel rather than grab the whole clip. So it is more convenient for us to edit on the timeline. We can use ‘I’ to select it. When we grab several footages to the timeline, be careful to avoid the audios and scenes overlapping on the line. This makes their contents merge and overlap that will make the editing more troubled. If we done this accidentally, we can press Ctrl+Z for undo. In addition, if the length of footage in the timeline is too short, we can use the ‘+’ sign to make them longer so that they can be cut and move more accurately. Similarly, we can use ‘-’ to shorten them. Then we learned to use cut and the trim tool to edit the footage. So for the trim tool, we can trim or expand the clip when there is a red block sign. And for the cutting tool, we can press ‘C’ on the keyboard to make the cut sign appear, and press ‘V’ to make the arrow sign returns. The cutting tool is simple but very useful, so we can make the scene cut to the mid shot from the wide shot. We did two different editing ways for our sequence, and both of them work very well.
